Strong Second Half Powers MHS Boys to Win

The Manhattan boys fell behind 11-2 in the regular season finale at Seaman, but outscored the Vikings by 11 in the second half to pick up a 59-50 win. Manhattan fought back to tie the game late in the second quarter but Seaman took a 26-24 lead into the locker room. The Indians opened the third quarter on a 12-2 run capped by back-to-back Jacob Holloway three pointers. MHS never trailed after that and sealed the win at the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Chris Hudgins led Manhattan with 13 points including a 7-of-8 effort from the foul line. Jonathan Taylor tallied 12 points in the win and Holloway was also in double figures with 11.

The Indian girls let a late lead slip away in the fourth quarter in a 41-37 loss to Seaman. MHS led by as many as seven in the game but let the Vikings get back in it after a slow offensive third quarter that saw the Indians score just six points. Trailing by two points in the final seconds, Manhattan’s  Elayna Spilker missed the potential game-tying shot and Seaman’s Tatyana Legette iced the game with two free throws. Legette paced Seaman with 10 points despite only connecting on two field goals all night.

Both teams will host at least one sub-state game next week. The boys will play on Wednesday and the girls on Thursday.
