A $10,000 grant will help students within the Blue Valley school district better understand scientific data.
The district received the grant from America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education, which is sponsored by the Monsanto Fund.
Making use of the funds, USD 384 will purchase scientific handheld computers and sensors – to transfer data collected through student experiments to their iPads for further evaluation.
The equipment will allow the district to broaden outdoor science education experiences, such as field research.
High school science teacher Ruth Hutson is thrilled that district has received the funding, saying “Students will be able to think and act like scientists, hone their science skills and be better prepared for post-secondary science classes and future careers.”
The district is no stranger to generosity from the Monsanto company. Earlier this year they received an educational starter kit from the company to help establish a pollinator garden, giving students a glimpse into the importance of habitat in the lives of butterflies and bees.
Representatives from the district were presented with the $10,000 check during halftime of the Blue Valley vs. Wakefield high school football game on September 4th.
Grow Rural Education has provided over $9 million in funds to foster the growth of rural area schools, since 2011.
