Manhattan High picked up the sweep over Highland Park on a homecoming Friday night at the MHS gym.

It started with the Lady Indians (8-1, 4-1) dominating from the start and rolling over the Lady Scots (3-5, 2-3) 77-34. The MHS girls led 25-8 after one and exploded in the second quarter to take a 52-13 lead at halftime and it was game, set and match from there.

Four in double figures led by Gigi McAtee’s 15 points. Madison Mittie and Garrin Williams each finished with 12 while Kennedy Wilson finished with 10.

The MHS boys (9-0, 5-0) stayed unbeaten, holding off the Scots (5-4, 3-2) in game two 60-55. The Indians are 9-0 for the first time since the 1955 season. MHS led 26-20 at the half, Highland Park grabbed a brief lead in the third quarter but the Indians survived knocking down 11 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Gabe Awbrey led the Indians with 17 points. Christian Carmichael and Trevor Hudgins finished with 12 and 11 points respectively.

The MHS girls will travel to Emporia on Friday night while the boys begin the Dodge City Tournament of Champions on Thursday against Hutchinson.
