Burton to make first appearance in unlawful sexual relations case

By KMAN Staff on June 21, 2016 Local News, Manhattan, Riley County, Top Story

A Manhattan man and former USD 378 employee facing four counts of unlawful sexual relations with a female student is set to have his first appearance in Riley County District Court Wednesday afternoon at 1:30.

Zachary Burton, 38, was arrested June 7.

Little information has been released in the case. An affidavit requested by Manhattan Broadcasting was sealed by the court. The court alleged the disclosure of the affidavit has the potential of jeopardizing the well-being of the victim in the case.

In addition to his former position as an assistant boys’ basketball coach at Riley County High School, Burton owns Fieldhouse Development in Manhattan and is a former K-State football player. KMAN first confirmed on May 25 that USD 378 was working with the Riley County Police Department on an employee investigation, with a CSI-type van seen on Bluemont Avenue that same night near the Fieldhouse Development office.
