MANHATTAN — The man who photographed both President Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama was at McCain Auditorium Tuesday evening discussing his traveling exhibit “Two Presidents, One Photographer.”
Pete Souza was the official White House photographer during Reagan’s second term from 1985 to 1989 and both terms under President Obama. Prior to the speaking engagement, Souza met with reporters about his agenda with the exhibit to highlight two very different politicians. He says both men respected the office of the presidency and treated others with respect.

Souza says despite the political differences between Obama and Reagan, the two men were very similar in their personalities.

Souza says he aimed with this exhibit to show both men beyond just their diplomatic efforts and gain a perspective of their humanity.

During the Obama administration, Souza’s says his photographs got more attention due to the advent of social media.

Souza, who still keeps in touch with former President Obama from time to time, says he’s not interested in being a White House photographer again but did express interest if he’s ever called upon to shoot a wedding someday for either of Obama’s two daughters.

The exhibit remains on display through April 27 at the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum’s Helm Gallery.
