Through their partnership, the American Red Cross and American Cancer Society are attempting to spread awareness of how donating blood can help cancer patients.

American Red Cross Account Manager Kristi Ingalls explains why cancer patients often receive blood donations.

Ingalls says she personally knows someone who received a significant amount of blood while receiving treatment.

          Ingalls 2

She says there are some local opportunities coming up for people who would like to help.

          Ingalls 3

With the flu and other sicknesses keeping some regular donors from being able to give blood, healthy people are encouraged to donate.

To register for a blood drive or find one near you, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-733-2767.
