    The following summary of calls for service/reports filed by the Riley County Police Department is a portion of those received by police. Some names, addresses, and case details are withheld to follow local, state, and federal law as well as in an attempt to protect community members from being victimized further. Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    MANHATTAN, KAN. – 

    Officers filed a report for theft by deception in the 600 block of Schurle Way in Riley on January 11, 2022, around 1:00 p.m. Officers listed a 68-year-old male as the victim when it was reported an unknown suspect posing as customer service for Amazon Prime scammed him out of $1,500 in Visa gift cards as payment for a “fraudulent return”. Anyone with information can contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Using the Crime Stoppers service can allow you to remain anonymous and could qualify you for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

    Officers responded to a medical call in the 3300 block of Fairman Cir. in Manhattan on January 11, 2022, around 1:34 p.m. When officers arrived on scene, they found a deceased 59-year-old female. No foul play is suspected at this time, an autopsy is pending.

    Officers filed a report for fraud in the 1100 block of Bluemont Ave. in Manhattan on January 11, 2022, around 2:16 p.m. Officers listed Rickels Liquor as the victim when it was reported an unknown suspect used a credit card that didn’t belong to them to purchase approximately $700 worth of alcohol.

    Officers filed a report for fraud in Manhattan on January 11, 2022, around 4:09 p.m. Officers listed a 63-year-old male as the victim when it was reported an unknown suspect wrote seven fraudulent checks out of an investment account. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $10,500. Anyone with information can contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers.
