    Update: Wamego Middle School teacher resigns following weekend arrest; wife also resigns

    Two Wamego School District employees have resigned amid a child sex crime investigation, involving one of them.

    According to the Wamego Times, Allen Sylvester, who worked as a middle school science teacher, and his wife Deborah Sylvester, a Wamego High math teacher, both submitted their resignations Tuesday at a special meeting of the USD 320 school board. The resignations came after Allen Sylvester was arrested Sunday in Wabaunsee County.

    The 51-year-old was booked on charges of unlawful sexual relations, sexual exploitation of a child and electronic solicitation with a child between the ages of 14 and 16. He remains jailed on a $100,000 bond.

    Authorities say no further details are being released as the investigation is ongoing.

    A Wamego Middle School teacher was arrested over the weekend in Wabaunsee County in connection to a child sex crime investigation.

    Arrest records show 51-year-old Allen Dale Sylvester was booked Sunday on charges of unlawful sexual relations, sexual exploitation of a child and electronic solicitation with between the ages of 14 and 16. Bond has been set at $100,000 and as of Tuesday morning, he remained in jail.

    No further details are being released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

    Sylvester is employed as a science teacher at Wamego Middle School. A special USD 320 school board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Professional Learning Center.
