A Manhattan man was arrested for trespassing on the grounds of three schools Thursday, according to Riley County Police.
In a statement, RCPD says officers were called out for a suspicious man inside Anthony Middle School around 7:30 a.m. as students were arriving for classes. According to RCPD, 22-year-old Samuel Osenga was stopped by staff, directed to the office and asked to leave the school but refused. During this time, students were held in their classrooms until the situation was resolved. He left before officers arrived.
A short time later, police say Osenga was found in the parking lot of University Christian Church, which operates a preschool, and made comments to officers he was searching for his father.
At around 9:30 a.m. officers were called to Amanda Arnold Elementary after staff reported Osenga was at the school. Officers quickly arrived and arrested him without incident for criminal trespass.
Police say Osenga was not in possession of any weapons and police have no reason to believe he had any intention of harming students at any school.
RCPD says if they believe there ever is a threat at any of the local schools, officers will respond as quickly as possible and parents will be notified, stating the safety of the community’s children is and will remain a top priority.
In an email response, USD 383 Director of Communications and Public Safety Michele Jones tells KMAN it appears Osenga walked in to Anthony with a group of students at the beginning of the school day.
He got no further than the office at Amanda Arnold, after buzzing in at the front door.
