    The following summary of calls for service/reports filed by the Riley County Police Department is a portion of those received by police. Some names, addresses, and case details are withheld to follow local, state, and federal law and in an attempt to protect community members from being victimized further. Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    MANHATTAN, KAN. – 

    Officers filed a report for theft in the 700 block of Pottawatomie Ave. in Manhattan on March 3, 2023, around 2:15 p.m. A 31-year-old man was listed as the victim when it was reported his Rock Island 1911 handgun was stolen from his unlocked car. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $575. Anyone with information can contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Using the Crime Stoppers service can allow you to remain anonymous and could qualify you for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

    Officers filed a report for theft in the 900 block of Claflin Rd. in Manhattan on March 3, 2023, around 7:00 p.m. A 20-year-old man was listed as the victim when it was reported his backpack with an HP Pavillion laptop inside was stolen from his unlocked truck. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $880. Anyone with information can contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Using the Crime Stoppers service can allow you to remain anonymous and could qualify you for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

    Officers filed a report for aggravated assault in the 1000 block of Bertrand St. in Manhattan on March 34, 2023, around 1:15 p.m. Officers responded to the area for the report of a fight in progress and found a 21-year-old man had smashed a glass bottle and threatened a 22-year-old man with it while the two were in a verbal and physical altercation. The victim sustained cuts to his arm, jaw, and knee, the suspect sustained cuts to his hands. Both were seen by EMS on scene and cleared. David Schatte, 21, of Manhattan was arrested in connection for aggravated assault. Schatte was issued a total bond of $2,500 and is no longer confined at the time of this report.

    Officers filed a report for aggravated burglary, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia in the 1400 block of College Ave. in Manhattan on March 4, 2023, around 11:45 p.m. Officers responded to the area for the report of a fight in progress involving multiple people. When officers arrived on scene, they found no fight in progress but were informed that four men had been the victims of a burglary at their apartment while they were home where a PlayStation 5 was stolen and the suspect had run from the area prior to officers’ arrival. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $720. Around 12:15 a.m. on March 5, 2023, officers made a traffic stop at the intersection of Anderson Ave. and Westport Dr. in Manhattan after seeing a man matching the description of the suspect in a car. Jesup McClelland, 22, of Ogden was identified as the suspect and arrested for aggravated burglary, and for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was found to be in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia at the time of his arrest. McCelland remains confined in the Riley County Jail with a total bond of $20,000. The driver of the car, Blaize Moore, 16, also of Ogden was also arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of a hallucinogenic drug, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia after he was found to be in possession of marijuana, mushrooms, and drug paraphernalia. Moore was processed through juvenile intake and released to a guardian.

    Officers filed a report for theft in the 1200 block of Ratone St. in Manhattan on March 5, 2023, around 1:45 p.m. A 54-year-old female was listed as the victim when it was reported six of her “For Rent” signs were stolen. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $1,800. Anyone with information can contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers.
