    Officers filed a report for theft in the 100 block of Bluemont Ave. in Manhattan on September 11, 2023, at approximately 11:30 a.m. Walmart was listed as the victim when it was reported a 20-year-old female suspect stole approximately $570 worth of merchandise while employed at the store the past two weeks.

    Austin Swafford, 39, of Manhattan was arrested on September 11, 2023, at approximately 12:45 p.m. on a Riley County District Court warrant for probation violation. This warrant stems from original charges of identity theft and theft. Swafford remains confined in the Riley County Jail with a total bond of $7,500.

    Officers filed a report for theft by deception in the 100 block of S. Dartmouth Dr. in Manhattan on September 11, 2023, at approximately 3:00 p.m. A 58-year-old woman was listed as the victim when it was reported she was scammed into sending money to an unknown suspect she met online. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $120,000. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers. Using Crime Stoppers allows you to remain anonymous and could qualify you for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

    Officers responded to the report of a car hitting a house multiple times near the intersection of S. 5th and Pierre Streets in Manhattan on September 11, 2023, at approximately 4:45 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban driven by William Windle, 60, of Independence, Mo., was driving west on Pierre when he veered south onto a property and into a house. It was reported Windle backed up and hit the house again before attempting to drive away. Windle came to a stop nearby and was detained by officers on scene. Windle was transported to Via Christi for treatment of minor injuries, then upon release transported to the Riley County Jail where he was booked for driving under the influence, and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident. Windle remains confined in the Riley County Jail with a total bond of $3,500.
