K-State now #2 in BCS standings

By KMAN Staff on October 28, 2012 K-State Sports

If the season ended today, the K-State football team would play for the national championship as they are ranked #2 in the latest Bowl Championship Series standings.  Even there’s still four games on the schedule, the Cats reached their highest ever ranking in the BCS since it was first enacted in 1998.  The Cats are #3 in both the Coaches’ and Harris polls, but are helped by the computers with a #1 ranking in three of the six in the survey.  Oregon is #4 in the BCS despite being #2 in both polls.  Notre Dame slid past the Ducks into the third spot.  Alabama remains a fairly commanding #1, and their opponent this week, LSU, rounds out the top five.

The Big 12 has half of its teams ranked in the top 25 of the BCS.  Oklahoma is now #12 following their loss to Notre Dame, Texas Tech drops to #18 after their loss to K-State, Texas remains #23 after a narrow win at Kansas, and is followed by the Cats’ opponent this week, Oklahoma State at #24.

8-0 K-State will host 5-2 Oklahoma State this Saturday night at 7:00pm in a nationally televised game on ABC.  The Cowboys are ranked #24 in the coaches’ poll.  Powercat Gameday will begin at 3:00pm from the west of Bill Snyder Family Stadium on SportsRadio 1350 KMAN and 101.5 K-Rock.
