Asian Market manager shares information on employee who tested positive for COVID-19

An employee at the Manhattan Asian Market has been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

Manager Fanny Fang in a video message on the market’s Facebook page said the employee has been in self-quarantine since Sunday when the symptoms began.

“The last time this employee worked at the store was on Saturday. This employee’s duties do not require them to be customer facing. They’re more of a floater, meaning whatever we need them to do, they are the ones we go to,” she said.

She says health officials have determined it is highly unlikely the employee was able to spread the virus to others, given their limited interaction with others.

“As long as customers and employees were not within six feet of this employee for longer than 5 to 10 minutes, the likelihood of transmission is low. Not impossible, but low,” she said.

Fang says as soon as they learned about the diagnosis, the Asian Market was immediately closed and disinfected. They are only doing pick up and delivery until further notice.

Employees and customers of the Asian Market are now required to wear a mask. They’ve also limited the amount of customers in the building to five people at a time.

Details about the employee like their age and gender are not being shared with the public to protect their privacy.

Riley County Health Department Director Julie Gibbs confirmed to KMAN the Asian Market case and says they are aware that a few employees at the Dillon’s East store have become infected. This is in addition to the two Geary County residents who are Dillon’s employees, that were announced to have the virus earlier this week.
