    8 p.m. update Tuesday

Authorities in Geary County say they’ve located the remains of 24-year-old Pacey Staines, the man reported missing since reportedly going out hunting Sunday morning.

Officials with the Geary County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks made the discovery Tuesday evening, shortly before 6:30 p.m. Pending an autopsy, more information may be released.

A missing persons report went out Monday evening after authorities said Staines hadn’t been heard from in over 24 hours. He had gone out hunting near Milford Lake and authorities conducted a search Monday and Tuesday nearby in an effort to locate him.

Conditions were not favorable, as temperatures have hovered well above 100 degrees over the last several days with heat indices pushing much higher.

    Original story 6 a.m. Tuesday

Geary County authorities are searching for a 24-year-old man, missing since Sunday.

According to the Geary County Sheriff’s Office, Pacey Nathaniel Staines had gone hunting in a rural area west of Milford Lake Sunday morning, just before 8 a.m. Last contact with Staines was reported around 12:45 p.m. Sunday.

A search was conducted in a wooded area near the 5300 block of North Dietrich Road, but was unsuccessful. It included authorities from several local and state agencies. Staines had not been located as of Monday night.

Staines is described as a 24-year-old white male, approximately 5 foot 6 inches tall and weighing approximately 160 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts should call the Geary County Sheriff’s Office 785-238-2261.
