The Oklahoma basketball team ran away from Kansas State for a 76-50 win Tuesday at Lloyd Noble Center in Norman to hand the Wildcats their fifth straight loss. K-State was handled with ease by the #4 Texas Longhorns 82-67 in Austin in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score indicated. For the second straight game, K-State was shorthanded. Three players were out, headlined by Nijel Pack, who hasn’t played in over a week. Antonio Gordon and Seyree Lewis barely practiced. DaJuan Gordon and Carlton Linguard were both limited with injuries. In a similar situation last Saturday against Oklahoma State, the Wildcats hung around into the second half. For a second straight season, MHS girls tennis has won the Centennial League title. The Indians were led by league singles champion Jillian Harkin who moved to 28-0 on the season with a 5-0 tournament. Last week, Harkin stayed unbeaten by knocking off previously 21-1 Ashley Jacobsen of Olathe Northwest. That capped a stretch of two tournament titles in 24 hours after competing at Emporia and Topeka West.  Harkin now moves on to regionals on Saturday at Wichita East. It’s the end of an era at K-State. Ryan Black of the Manhattan Mercury reports that Hall of Fame head coach Bill Snyder will announce his retirement today after 27 seasons with the Wildcats. News of a 2:00 team meeting Sunday afternoon was first reported by K-State Online and later confirmed by KMAN. Snyder orchestrated the greatest turnaround in college football history in Manhattan. He won 215 games during two stints as the Wildcats head coach after inheriting a program mired in a 26 game winless streak.  Those 215 wins are 176 more than anyone else in school history. Snyder…

For the first time in program history, Kansas State women’s soccer has garnered a pair of Big 12 weekly honors as senior goalkeeper Miranda Larkin was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week while forward Hannah Davis earned the league’s Freshman of the Week award on Tuesday. For the second consecutive week, a Kansas State women’s soccer student-athlete has received the Big 12 Freshman of the Week award as the league office announced Hannah Davis as the honoree. Davis follows her teammate Brookelynn Entz who earned the program’s first league weekly honor on Sept. 12. That’s according to a release from K-State Athletics. Davis finished the week with a combined four points, scoring one goal and adding two assists. FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) The Kansas City Chiefs have opened their season by knocking off the defending Super Bowl champs. Alex Smith and rookie Kareem Hunt led an offense that shredded the Patriots in a 42-27 win at New England. Smith threw a pair of long touchdown passes and Hunt scored three times after fumbling on his first NFL carry. Smith was 28 of 35 passing for 368 yards and four TDs. Sparked by two strong opening sets and three players in double-figure kills, Kansas State defeated North Florida in four sets (25-18, 25-19, 21-25, 25-23) on the opening night of the Georgia Tech Invitational at O’Keefe Gym. That’s according to a release from K-State Athletics. K-State’s (3-4) Kylee Zumach (16 kills), Bryna Vogel (11) and Macy Flowers (10) spearheaded a Wildcat offense that hit above .360 in each of the match’s first two sets. Former K-State wide receiver Corey Sutton’s transfer isn’t going the way he planned. In a Thursday interview with KMAN, Sutton said K-State blocked his transfer to a list of 35 schools he listed as possible destinations. Sutton says he then appealed the ruling, but it was upheld Wednesday. Sutton can transfer with or without a release, but without a release he is unable get a scholarship or any kind of financial aid at his new school.
