Rock Creek’s Carson Becker and Wamego’s Lanie Page were each chosen first team all-state by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association for the 2014-15 season. Becker was a first-team pick in 4A-Division 2 after averaging 15 points and 8 rebounds per game for the Mustangs. He helped lead Rock Creek to a runner-up finish at the state tournament, the best finish in school history. Rock Creek’s Nate Berard was an honorable mention selection. The Manhattan High girls soccer team is off to a 1-0 start after cruising past Topeka High 7-0 last night. They’re back in action tomorrow at home against Blue Valley West. The Manhattan High girls won the Topeka West Mid Winter Relays and the MHS boys finished second. Megan Ochoa won both the 800 and 1600 meter runs, Madison Johnson won the triple jump and the Indian girls won the 4 by 8 relay. Marcus Foster and Tre Harris have been dismissed from the K-State basketball program, and Jevon Thomas will transfer closer to home. K-State sent out a press release with the information late Tuesday night. “Marcus and Tre have been unable to live up to the standards that we expect of our players,” said head coach Bruce Weber in the release. “It is a privilege to represent Kansas State University and there are consequences when players don’t live up to those expectations. Manhattan High pole vaulter Alex Stenberg has signed a letter of intent to continue her track career at Bendictine College. Stenberg chose Benedictine over a handful of other Catholic colleges. She explains why it was Benedictine in the end. She is working her way back from a torn ACL suffered at the end of last track season. The first meet of the Manhattan High track season is March 26th at the Topeka West Invitational.

The Manhattan High girls took a big step toward another league title with a 39-36 win at Washburn Rural on Friday. Both MHS and Washburn Rural entered the night tied at 6-2 in the Centennial League, and the two teams were dead even after one quarter at 10-10 as well. The Indians then steadily built a lead in the second and third quarters and held off a late Rural rally to get the win. Caroline Ballard blocked a potential game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer. Manhattan High’s Tyler Daveline signed his letter of intent to play soccer at Nebraska Wesleyan on Tuesday at MHS. Daveline was a first team all-league selection at defender in 2014 and helped the Indians to a 13-5-1 record. He was also a captain for the 2014 squad. Their season ended with a sub-state final loss to eventual 6A state runner-up Washburn Rural. Daveline will play for new Nebraska Wesleyan head coach Tudor Flintham who was hired in November.

Jake Waters set the K-State school record for total yards in a season in 2015, and he did so while playing the final seven games with a shoulder injury that required surgery. Waters tweeted a picture of himself recovering from the surgery today. He injured the shoulder after being tackled following a 51-yard run in a 31-30 win over Oklahoma. Waters wasn’t available to the media for a few weeks after the Oklahoma game and insisted that he was fine once he was again made available.
