Original: An evacuation advisory has been issued for the Dix Addition in the Northview area of Manhattan as of the 6 o’clock hour Wednesday. Riley County Emergency Management Director Pat Collins says projections show Tuttle Creek Lake possibly rising over 1136 feet above mean sea level tomorrow, which has prompted the advisory. Lake levels as of 7 p.m. show Tuttle at an elevation of 1135.08 feet. Outflows from the tubes will be increased to 25,000 cfs to attempt to keep levels from reaching that point. Collins says this is…

A public meeting is planned tonight by the Army Corps of Engineers at the Milford Lake Dam. They’ll be discussing the situation at the Geary County reservoir, which also has rising levels. Gauges on the National Weather Service website show levels on the Republican River at Milford Lake reaching 1170.5 feet above mean sea level. The level where water would go out the spillway on the south end of the reservoir is 1176.25 ft. The meeting is planned for 6 p.m. tonight. TOPEKA — Top Republican legislators in Kansas were preparing to test Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly’s power to shape the state budget and hold off a GOP push for income tax relief. The Republican-dominated Legislature was convening Wednesday for its final day in session this year with Republicans looking to override Kelly’s veto of a GOP tax relief bill and vetoes of several spending items included in the next state budget. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A vicious storm tore through the Kansas City area, spawning tornadoes that downed trees and power lines, damaged homes and injured at least a dozen people in the latest barrage of severe weather that saw tornado warnings as far east as New York City. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Concerns are high that flooding in the central U.S. will get even worse because of the most recent torrential downpours. Strong storms that spawned dangerous tornadoes in Kansas and northwestern Missouri also brought heavy rain. Flash floods were reported in several places, closing roads and forcing water rescues. Officials say three people in Douglas County, west of Kansas City, Kansas, were seriously injured by a strong tornado that struck near the college town of Lawrence. FORT RILEY – A Memorial Day ceremony honored fallen soldiers Monday at the Fort Riley post cemetery. The event was standing room only while Senator Pat Roberts addressed the crowd, sharing a family story of his father who served in the Marines. Roberts took time to address the sacrifices made by service men and women. Chaplain Colonel Shmuel Felzenberg prayed to close the ceremony. The ceremony included a wreath laying, 21 gun salute and the Taps band who played “God Bless America.”
An 8-year member of the USD383 Board of Education has filed for re-election. Darell Edie has served two terms on the board and filed last Friday, joining current board President Curt Herrman in seeking to return for four more years. Edie says the recent bond issue definitely had an influence on his decision. He also says that while the district is committed to the social-emotional aspects of education, they need to step up its efforts for students and their families.
