  A joint investigation by the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office, Wamego Police Department and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks resulted in the arrest of two men this past week. According to a Thursday evening news release from Sheriff Greg Riat, the two males who were driving a 2004 Chevy Silverado Pickup were stopped near Horseshoe Road on Military Trail Rd in  rural Wamego around 3:40 p.m last Friday (July 1). Riley County commissioners agreed Thursday morning to keep their salaries flat for 2017 in an effort to keep costs down as they continue to craft next year’s budget. Commissioner Robert Boyd made the motion to eliminate cost of living adjustment increases and step increases for the commission for next year. The commission was expected to see a step increase of 3.07 percent or a half percent COLA increase. A missing soldier was found dead July 1 on Fort Riley, according to press release sent to KMAN Thursday. Spc. Oscar Delgado, a fire control repairer, arrived at Fort Riley in October 2014. His home of record is San Francisco. He was 26 years old. Almost 200 law enforcement officers and victim service providers from across Kansas will be in Manhattan Tuesday and Wednesday to team up in the fight against human trafficking, Acting U.S. Attorney Tom Beall said Thursday. “Human trafficking is the modern form of slavery,” Beall said. “It’s here now. WICHITA — A state senator from southern Kansas says school district superintendents are working to defeat incumbent Republican conservative lawmakers in this year’s elections. Sen. Forrest Knox, a Republican from Altoona, made that allegation in an email to supporters last week and in an interview with The Wichita Eagle. Knox says he sees signs for his opponents at the homes across the state belonging to people connected to the state’s schools. WICHITA — The man convicted of killing abortion provider George Tiller is expected to return to a Kansas courtroom. Scott Roeder’s life sentence with no chance of parole for 50 years was among many vacated after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2013 that juries, not judges, must decide whether aggravating circumstances existed to warrant increasing the punishment above mandatory minimum sentences. The St. Marys Police Department has released new information regarding a stolen vehicle in their jurisdiction that was later involved in an injury accident just north of Rossville. Police Chief J. Winkleman indicates in an Thursday afternoon news release, a report was first taken Monday by the department related to a vehicle theft in town. Fort Riley will bid farewell to current garrison commander Col. Andrew Cole Jr.  and welcome incoming commander Col. John Lawrence at a change of command ceremony at Ware Parade Field at 9 a.m. July 13. Lawrence is taking command following an assignment as the garrison commander at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. Cole became the commander July 2013 and will be leaving Fort Riley to become the chief of staff of the Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, Georgia.
