Riley County Police released more information Tuesday regarding an arrest KMAN first told you about this past weekend. RCPD responded to a report of a domestic incident which occurred in the 200 block of North Broadway in Riley, at about 11:14 Friday night. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a 17-year-old female who alleged that she had been struck by a male who was known to her. The victim was treated on scene by emergency crews before being transported by her family to Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. WICHITA — Police say a 12-year-old girl thwarted a home invasion near Seneca by punching one of the intruders. According to Wichita Sgt. Bob Gulliver, police responded to a report of an attempted robbery at a residence at 3:10 p.m. on Sunday. Gulliver said a 30-year-old woman told officers her daughter answered the door and a 16-year-old boy grabbed her and pushed her inside the house. Police say a 19-year-old man followed the 16-year-old into the house before the girl punched one of the suspects. According to Gulliver, both suspects fled the residence. Kansas State University has announced internal sanctions following Saturday’s halftime performance that made national headlines concerning the band’s playful taunt of the University of Kansas by depicting the the “U.S.S. Enterprise” from Star Trek taking on the KU “Jayhawk” mascot. Some took the space ship as a more lewd formation. After developing a lead from a patrol officer, two 17 year olds and a 16 year old were arrested and charged with 121 counts of Damage to Property and Conspiracy to commit damage to property. After executing search warrants, 4 BB guns, BBs and air canisters were located and collected. A preliminary estimate of total damage on these charges is around $30,000.00. The juveniles are being detained at the Juvenile Detention Center pending first appearance. Myra Gordon, associate provost for diversity, has announced her retirement effective at the conclusion of the fall 2015 semester. Gordon, who joined Kansas State University in 2002, has led the university’s award-winning recruitment and retention programs that target multicultural students, faculty and staff, as well as collaborative efforts with colleges, departments and units, external constituency groups and national organizations focused on enhancing diversity. A Manhattan man who was pursued on foot by Riley County police officers into City Park and apprehended by the use of TASER following a shooting in Aggieville during the early morning hours of May 3 pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted first degree murder Tuesday morning in Riley County District Court. Several accidents were reported in the Manhattan area this past long weekend, with a Denver woman taken to Via Christit Hospital in Manhattan following a Monday morning accident on westbound I-70, 1.7 miles west of Tallgrass road.  Jennifer Kukoy, 36, was a passenger in a 2014 Subaru passenger car driven by  Jonna Lafoy, 31, also of Denver. HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) Efforts to convert abandoned rail lines into trails have followed a long and winding road in central Kansas. The trails are the most abundant in the eastern part of the state. They include a 117-mile-long Flint Hills Nature Trail that stretches from Osawatomie to Herrington and the roughly 50-mile Prairie Spirit Trail connects Ottawa with Iola. The trials provide long paths for walking, running, bicycling and horseback riding. The Hutchinson News reports that in some areas, finding the necessary support and funding has proven challenging. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Raising money for charity has turned into an adrenal producing adventure in Topeka. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that adventure seekers turned out Saturday morning to rappel down a 13-story Westar Energy building. The event was a fundraiser for the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center. Each participant is responsible for raising $1,000 for the center. The Children’s Discovery Center and Over the Edge, a Canadian company that works with nonprofits, hosted the event.
