The Manhattan City Commission unanimously voted Tuesday to prohibit the open-carry of firearms in 50 City buildings. “The City can prohibit open carry by the public in City buildings if it has a sign posted at all the entrances,” said Katie Jackson, assistant city attorney. Mayor Wynn Butler recognized that simply posting a sign wouldn’t physically keep anyone from openly carrying their firearm into a building, but said that cost-wise, signs are the City’s most viable option. While most budget work sessions are held during regularly scheduled Riley County Commission meetings,  a special session was held Tuesday morning in the commission room. The budget session, like all others, was open to the public, and several county department heads were in attendance.     Two Kansas Department of Corrections inmates are up for public comment sessions and parole hearings beginning in August.   Keith Brown, 56, was convicted in Geary County in 1991 on charges of aggravated burglary, rape, and aggravated robbery. Brown most recently has been housed at the El Dorado Correctional Facility.   Alex Mackey, 55, was convicted in 1983 on a theft charge in Geary County, although faces more serious convictions of aggravated robbery and burglary and drug-related counts in Sedgwick, Finney, and Atchison counties. Update at 2:30 p.m. As KMAN reported Tuesday morning, an injury accident took place just before 9 a.m. on  I-70. Kansas Highway Patrol indicates the wreck took place about 15 miles east of Manhattan, in the westbound lane near milemarker 317. Halston Puett (20), of Topeka, was driving his Ford E350 westbound on I-70, when he struck a farm tractor that was mowing on the side of the road.  Myron Sessions (40), of Alma, was driving the New Holland farm tractor, which had a mower deck attached to it.
