A motion hearing was held Tuesday afternoon in Riley County District Court for the woman charged in the first degree murder where John Burroughs (68), of Manhattan, was found dead in his residence in September of last year. Christina Love (49) appeared in court, alongside her attorney-Jason Hoffman. Hoffman requested additional time in the case, in order to go through recently discovered materials. As a result, Love would waive her right to a speedy trial. Chief Judge, Meryl Wilson granted this request, and set Love’s pre-trial conference status hearing for May 5th at 3:30 p.m.

Around 120 meetings have taken place around Kansas so far involving the Governor’s call to action for Kansas water priorities. This call to action was initiated by Governor, Sam Brownback at the Governor’s Conference on Water late last year. Update-8:45 a.m. Wednesday Manhattan Fire Department crews say the fire cause was accidental, as an appliance malfunctioned. The estimated fire loss is $120,000. original story The Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to 1318 Pierre Street for a report of a structure fire at 9:44 a.m. Tuesday. Upon arrival, crews found a single story residential structure with smoke coming from the attic vents on the roof. Firefighters entered the structure and located the fire in the attic. Long before he led K-State to the 2013 Big 12 title, regional championship, and a super regional berth, head baseball coach Brad Hill caught K-State’s eye by his work at Central Missouri State. Hill led the Mules to the 2003 Division II national championship, and won the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) regular season conference title all nine seasons he was in Warrensburg. Hill was elected on Monday to the MIAA hall of fame. He’ll be inducted on June 5th at a ceremony in Kansas City. Two separate cases, involving one theft incident, were held in Riley County District Court Chief Judge, Meryl Wilson’s courtroom Monday afternoon. Ashley Newbrough (21) appeared first and made a plea of no contest to her charges, including obstruction with a law enforcement officer. The alleged incident involves her husband Todd Newbrough (21) stealing a ring from a local jewelry store. He reportedly asked Ashley to take the ring out of the house so police wouldn’t find it.
