Three Kansas Department of Corrections Inmates with Riley County convictions are up for the next set of public comment sessions and possible parole. Shakeer Davis, 35, was convicted in late 1997 of murder in the first degree, attempted murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary. The February 28th shooting in Manhattan resulted in the death of Wanda Norman and the wounding of John Garner. Davis was 17-years-old at the time of the offense. Manhattan High’s Kelli Stockton signed her letter of intent to play soccer at Allen County Community College on Wednesday at MHS. Stockton helped lead Manhattan to within a game of their second straight trip to the 6A state tournament in 2014. The 2015 season will get underway on March 26th. Allen County finished their season this fall with a 13-4 record.

The Wamego City Commission approved a funding proposal for adding a Convention and Visitors Bureau Coordinator. At Tuesday’s meeting, City Manager Merl Page set the stage for the proposal from the Wamego Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Megan Umscheid, and board members Jason Moore, Jeff Wick, Chris Hupe and Lance White. The Riley County Police Department and the Kansas State University Police Department have received several complaints regarding possible scams in the Manhattan and Riley County Area. These scams are carried out over the phone or via postcard and request that the potential victim supply personal or financial information. RCPD would like to remind the community to question suspicious correspondences to protect their personal information. K-State’s Katie Brand and Kylee Zumach were both named honorable mention All-Americans by the American Volleyball Coaches Association after helping lead the Wildcats back to the NCAA tournament this year. They are just the seventh and eighth Wildcats to ever be named AVCA All-Americans, and Zumach is the first freshman to garner the honor. Zumach is also a finalist for the AVCA Freshman of the Year award. Brand is just the second K-State setter in school history to earn All-American honors, joining Gabby Guerre who was an honorable mention selection in 2003. A car reportedly drove into a business on Westport Drive Wednesday morning. The business has been identified as New Beginnings Nail and Beauty Salon, located at 1130 Westport Drive, Suite 6. Riley County Police and EMS responded to the scene shortly before 8:30. Riley County Police Public Information Officer Mat Droge indicates no serious injuries were involved.
