Property owners came out in force at the Wamego City Commission Public Forum Tuesday. The meeting was scheduled to further discuss the Contractor Licensing Code Ordinance passed earlier this year requiring licensed contractors to do any work on property that requires a permit and that is not the owner’s primary residence, such as a property purchased for resale or a rental. The audience consisted of owners of rental properties and building contractors. By Kenny Lannou, K-State Athletics Communications With its 6-1 record heading into this weekend’s matchup with Oklahoma State, Kansas State was ranked ninth in the inaugural College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings announced Tuesday on ESPN by the 12-person committee. The Wildcats were one of five Big 12 teams to debut in the poll with TCU (7th), Baylor (13th), Oklahoma (18th) and West Virginia (20th) also ranked. Auburn, one of K-State’s non-conference opponents this season, was ranked third. Officials representing several different organizations in Riley County met Tuesday night to discuss facts and statistics about the Ebola virus. The meeting was led by Public Health Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Jason Orr of the Riley County Health Department. Orr presented several statistics and facts to an audience of officials everywhere from Mercy Regional Health Center to Riley County EMS. Riley County officials have been preparing for Ebola by training and practicing the proper procedures needed to successfully quarantine and treat infected persons. On Tuesday night the Manhattan city commission heard a report on the state of the public pool system. Parks and Recreation Director Edward Eastes reported record attendance at the pools in 2014 with the total reaching 131, 876.  However, revenues for the pool system fell, and if operations continue the city subsidy for the system is forecast to rise to $295,607.  Officials cited a number of reasons for the rise of operation costs in 2014, which included a longer operational run from 2013.
