Wamego’s USD 320 Board of Education has reason to be proud. At Monday’s meeting, Board President Amy Schwein recognized Central’s 1st grade teacher, Trisha Spears, who was awarded the Kansas Horizon Award by KSDE (Kansas State Department of Education) and the Kansas Cable Telecommunication Association. The Horizon Award program’ s mission is to recognize exemplary first-year teachers who perform in a way that distinguishes them as outstanding. . She was nominated by Central’s Principal Teri Dow. Update: Wednesday afternoon KMAN had a chance to visit with Daniel’s father, Jose, Wednesday afternoon, who says his son enjoyed his time at Kansas State’s A. Q. Miller School of Journalism. He says he was really excited when he got in radio, especially calling games while working at Kansas State’s radio station. Jose Flores adds his son would have loved Kansas State’s win against Kansas earlier this week and he says the Cotton Bowl trip was another highlight for Daniel. With the first month of the year at a close, department updates were the key focus of Monday’s Pottawatomie County Commission meeting. Leu Lowrey, Public Works Director, talked about snow removal for the county along with the possibility of work moving forward on Belvue Bridge.
