An almost two hour wait on jury proceedings was needed by Judge David Stutzman and counsels as they wrangled out a legal issue before open court resumed again on Wednesday morning. The City of Wamego received a good grade for its annual audit.  At Tuesday’s City Commission meeting, Reese & Novelly’s Carol McCullough went over the 2013 Audit, and said there were no significant reportable corrections and gave the City a ‘clean report’.    According to McCullough, there is one area accountants look at, and it’s internal control.  She commended City Manager Merl Page and the City staff for having such good internal controls in place.  She noted the staff continually challenges her with questions to make sure entries are made in compliance.  She concluded by saying it was a good, clean…

DENVER — Ned Yost never has a bad birthday, but a win helps make the occasion much more special. Omar Infante had three doubles and drove in four runs to help the streaking Kansas City Royals beat the Colorado Rockies 7-4 on Tuesday night. It also brought a smile to Yost, who turned 60. The Manhattan City Commission approved the second reading of the 2015 Budget Tuesday, which includes a mill levy rate 43.942, an increase of roughly half-a-mill over the current fiscal year. The vote was not unanimous as two Commissioners expressed their desire to keep the mill levy even, a sentiment not shared by Commissioner, Karen McCulloh. “Flat is not flat. Flat is going backwards, because everything costs more. Asphalt costs more, staff costs more, that kind of thing,” McCulloh said. Tuesday night, multiple first response teams from all over Riley, Geary, and Pottawatomie Counties took part in a cooperative simulation near Manhattan Regional Airport. The simulation included a downed aircraft with “victims”, both living actors and dummies as fatalities, that were strewn across a field. Response teams were tasked to search, assess, and triage victims. Riley County EMS Director Pat Collins was a main facilitator of the simulation.
