 Update: Thursday morning KMAN has received word of a volunteer search effort for the missing St. George woman, this coming Saturday. The search for Jane Peterson will begin at 10:15 Saturday morning at the Tuttle cove boat dock. Volunteers are asked to meet at the tuttle Cove parking lot by the boat dock. Those who want to help in ways other than actively participating can donate water, granola bars and other snack foods for those who will be searching. Those items can be dropped off at Brooks Yamaha on highway 24 on the east side of Manhattan Thursday and Friday.…

The Manhattan Public Library will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the public on Saturday, January 25, at 1:00 pm to mark the beginning of construction on the children’s library expansion. The ceremony begins in the auditorium with refreshments, music from Anne and Pete Sibley, and opening remarks, and then moves outside to the north face of the library along Poyntz Avenue. Students from Woodrow Wilson and Northview Elementary schools will join other guests to break ground. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)   Outfielder Justin Maxwell and the Kansas City Royals agreed to a one-year contract worth $1,325,000, leaving closer Greg Holland and reliever Aaron Crow as their only unsigned players in arbitration. Maxwell gets a substantial raise from the $492,500 he made last year. He was asking for $1.7 million and the Royals had offered $1,075,000. Kansas City previously agreed to one-year contracts with first baseman Eric Hosmer, infielder Emilio Bonifacio, catcher Brett Hayes and relief pitchers Tim Collins and Luke Hochevar. Update 10:00 Wednesday Fort Riley officials have released details to KMAN regarding the Fort Riley soldier, who died in the accident on I-70. Michalak was an automatic rifleman in the 1st armored combat team.  He was originally from Ursa, Illinois and had been in the army for three years. The Manhattan City Commission voted to enter into an agreement between local jurisdictions for the creation of the Flint Hills Regional Transit Administration (FHRTA). The proposal was made by the Flint Hills Regional Council (FHRC) during Tuesday night’s City Commission meeting. “We have suggested that we create a public entity at a regional level through an interlocal agreement, which would then be signed off on by the Attorney General and would give that entity (FHRTA) status as a public entity and would be able to apply for and receive directly from FTA, the 5307 funds,” said Gary Stith Planner for…

The Manhattan high girls basketball team was playing Washburn Rural for the second time this season Tuesday night inside the Manhattan high gymnasium. The first meeting between the two saw MHS erase an 11 point deficit in the third quarter to pull out a 57-51 win back on January 7th. Tuesday’s meeting between the two was much more of a defensive struggle. Washburn Rural built a 12-11 lead at half time with both teams combining to go 10-38 from the field in the first half. Wamego City Commissioners are taking care of the Julie Drive issue.  At Tuesday’s City Commission meeting, Merl Page, City Manager, said they met with property owner Jeff Adams at the site to review the field modifications to his property.  Based on the recommendations by an engineer, Page asked for funding authority to do the changes for an estimated cost of $3,854.  The changes involved lowering portions of the sidewalk and lowering the grade of the driveway.     Adams appeared at a prior meeting to discuss the issue with the driveway at his residence.  The Julie Drive project involved major street repairs…
