K-State received a commitment from a highly regarded junior college player for the second time in as many days, according to Rivals.com. Riverside, CA Community College offensive tackle Dominique Robertson gave his word to K-State over the weekend. The 6′ 5″ 300-pound Robertson is the #72 ranked junior college player in the 2014 recruiting class. The three star prospect picked K-State over Arizona, Arizona State, Texas Tech, and Washington State.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson and quarterback Alex Smith were chosen Monday to replace 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman and Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in the Pro Bowl. The two substitutions means Kansas City will be sending 10 players to Hawaii. Bowman tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his left knee in Sunday’s NFC championship loss to Seattle. The Kansas Highway Patrol has released more information about a vehicle/bicycle accident KMAN news first reported mid-day Monday. The accident occurred on highway 24, or Tuttle Creek Boulevard, at 59th Street north of Manhattan. KHP indicates a 1996 Honda Civic driven by Eleanor Samuelson, 90 of Randolph was eastbound on highway 24 and failed to maintain a lane, striking the pedestrian/bicyclist with a right side vehicle mirror. The pedestrian is listed as Jefrey Hooper, 45, of Manhattan. KHP indicates he was taken to Mercy Regional Health Center, although RCPD dispatch indicated Monday he refused medical transport. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Topeka police say a special operations division made several important arrests last year that helped take armed robbers off the streets. In one case, seven people arrested last year have admitted to committing more than 40 armed robberies in the last six years. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports the seven were all charged under a federal statute and face long prison sentences. Police Maj. Mike Haugen, the commander of the special operations division, says his division also helped break up a multistate robbery crew that hit Topeka. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A Kansas law that regulated home inspectors has expired, raising concerns from home inspectors who helped write the law. The law, which took effect in 2009, required Kansas home inspectors to follow certain practices and standards. But it had a provision that allowed it to expire five years after taking effect. The fifth year was 2013. Gov. Sam Brownback vetoed a measure that would have allowed the law to continue, saying he didn’t see evidence that large numbers of Kansans were being ripped off by home inspectors. (AP) Residents in northeast Lawrence are living in what experts consider a `food desert.’ Four adjacent census tracks in northeast Lawrence are designated a `food desert’ because the 18,000 residents living there have no nearby grocery store to provide fresh, healthy food. Many of the residents are low-income and have little access to transportation. The Lawrence Journal-World reports the last grocery store north of the river closed in the mid-1990s.
