Divided into age groups, the kids took turns pitching horseshoes, playing “Cowboy Shuffleboard”, roping, and taking a ride on a stick pony for the barrel racing event. Riley County Police are investigating the reported theft of a 1994 Ford F-250.The vehicle was reported as stolen by Midwest Wholesale of Manhattan in the 500 block of Fort Riley Blvd. The F-250 is white in color and reportedly became missing between the 8th and 9th of this month. Its estimated value is listed as $2,500 and currently the suspect or suspects are unknown. Those with information about this vehicle are asked to contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. The report was filed late Thursday morning.
The unemployment rate in the Manhattan metropolitan area went up a little since last month. According to numbers released by the Kansas Department of Labor, which indicates a 5.0 percent rate for June, compared to a 4.3 percent rate for May. Last year at this time in June the rate was 5.7 percent. The Manhattan metro area includes Riley, Pottawatomie, and Geary Counties. The city by itself recorded a 4.2 percent rate for June, which is slightly higher than May’s 3.6, but lower than June 2013 when it was 4.7 percent. Tyler Lockett is on his second watch list for an award given to the best player in college football, this time it’s the Walter Camp Award. Lockett has already been named a candidate for the Maxwell (college player of the year), Biletnikoff (best wide receiver) and Paul Hornung (most versatile player) awards. He’s also a preseason All-Big 12 selection at both wide receiver and kick returner according to the league’s media. K-State has had five players named to the Walter Camp Award watch list in the past three seasons. Arthur Brown, Collin Klein and Nigel Malone all made the list…
