K-State was picked to finish third in the Big 12, behind Oklahoma and Baylor, by the media on Thursday. The Wildcats beat out Texas by a single point, with 377 points overall, in the poll. It’s the highest K-State has been picked since the Big 12 started round robin play in 2011. Last season the Wildcats finished fifth in the league after being picked to finish sixth by the conference media. Oklahoma racked up 47 of the 56 first place votes to finish first in the poll. An Ogden man faces several charges following his arrest by Riley county Police early Thursday morning. Steven Meredith, 28 was taken into custody while in the 400 block of Walters Drive in Manhattan at about  12:05 AM. Meredith was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear as well as additional offenses of fleeing and eluding, interference with law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, and driving on a suspended driver’s license.   Meredith’s bond was set at $20,000.   Police also arrested Bridget Gakle, 29, of Ogden for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Gakles’ bond was set at…

The only new item on Wednesday night’s Manhattan Ogden USD 383 School Board meeting agenda involved a student privacy policy.  This is a mandatory change handed down by the state, and Superintendent, Bob Shannon provided background on the topic. The policy was passed by the legislature, and involves privacy policies for student grades.  Shannon said the final document is not ready yet, but he expected to present the full policy in three weeks. Tensions rose and tears were shed during the preliminary hearing for 37 year old Anthony Nichols.  Nichols is charged in the death of 68 year old John Burroughs, who was reportedly shot and stabbed at his home in September of 2013. Prosecuting State Attorney, Barry Disney called the first witness to the stand:  Riley County Police Department Crime Scene Technician, Elizabeth Hartman.  She was originally called out to the crime scene investigation on September 8th, 2013  at Burroughs residence off of Farm Bureau Road in Manhattan.  The residence was located in a trailer court east of the police department.
