At approximately 3:50 PM Saturday, the Riley County Police Department along with emergency crews responded to a single vehicle collision in the 2100 block of McDowell Creek Road. This vehicle (motorcycle) collision occurred after the driver of a 2013 Kawasaki ZX636, Devon Jamison,30, of Fort Riley lost control and left the roadway. Jamison and a passenger, who were wearing helmets at the time, were both ejected. The passenger of this motorcycle, Andrea Becker, 19, also of Fort Riley was transported to Mercy Regional as a result of injuries sustained during the accident. A Riley County District Court Decision in a civil lawsuit involving Kansas State University and a former employee has been reversed and remanded with directions by the Kansas Court of Appeals. The opinion was released Friday. In the lawsuit, Rachel Platt appealed from the district court’s decision, with Judge David Stutzman presiding, which dismissed her claim of retaliatory discharge against Kansas State University. The local court maintained she failed to exhaust administrative remedies under the Kansas Judicial review Act. Platt was hired as a probationary employee by the university in September of 2011, but she maintains she began to suffer…

The first ever Flint Hills Day kicked off Saturday morning at 7 a.m. with the “Run for the Hills” 5K run/walk.  As part of Bike Month, bike riders also traveled to the Flint Hills Discovery Center for the day. Different activities were located throughout the building, and throughout the day.  The bulk of the events began at noon.  Entertainment was provided by “The Skirts”, educational crafts were available for children, and live birds were available to view. Although legislators had a late night, wrapping up the legislative session at 2:13 Saturday morning,  four of them also had an early morning-as they attended the Legislative Coffee Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. The event was held at Sunset Zoo’s Nature Exploration Center. Legislators spoke about what happened during the last night of the session, and mentioned the budget was the major topic that night.  The budget was passed, as well as a few other bills. Some of the last 1st Infantry Division Soldiers to deploy to Afghanistan have arrived home. The final main body flight with about 90 Soldiers  returned, with both of the brigade’s command team and their colors. The ceremony took place at 4:30 a.m. Saturday in Bldg. 863 on Fort Riley.  The “Big Red One” first deployed troops to Afghanistan in 2008. This deployment is projected to be the last for a 1st Inf. Div. brigade in the region.  An uncasing took place at this redeployment ceremony, where the brigade’s commander, Col.
