K-State senior men’s golfer Daniel Wood is the first Wildcat in four years to be selected to the NCAA Regionals.  Wood tied for seventh at the Big 12 Championship earlier this month, and is one of 45 individuals nationally to earn a bid.  He’ll tee it up next Thursday thru Saturday, May 15th to the 17th at the Columbia, Missouri regional.   To make the NCAA National Championships in Hutchinson later this month, Wood would have to beat out all golfers not on one of five teams to qualify from the Columbia Regional. SAN DIEGO (AP) Will Venable hit a two-run single in the 12th inning to give the San Diego Padres a 6-5 win over the Kansas City Royals on Monday night. Venable singled off Tim Collins and over the head of right fielder Lorenzo Cain to score Chris Denorfia with the tying run and Yonder Alonso with the winning run from second base. A man charged in a vehicular homicide case, made his final statement during his sentencing Monday afternoon.   Daniel Nitchman (38) appeared in Riley County District Court, alongside his attorney-Richard Seaton.  In September of last year, Nitchman was driving his 2012 Ford pickup down I-70 when he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.  His vehicle veered off the roadway, entered the north side ditch, and struck 31 year old Samantha Coleman of Abilene, who was standing outside her vehicle.  The accident killed Coleman instantly.   During Nitchman’s final statement, he commented- “I’m sorry for what happened.  If I could go back…

A work session was held to discuss how to proceed with the recent vacancy of the Information Technology/GIS position.  Previous Director, Robert Nall, left the position in April to pursue other employment and Dawn Shoffner is standing in at interim director. During Monday’s Riley County Commission meeting, Human Resource Manager, Cindy Volanti informed the commission that twelve qualified individuals have applied so far-but some are more qualified than others. Manhattan Area Technical College recently competed in a statewide hands-on skills competition with the Air Conditioning competition held at MATC and Welding and Auto Collision competitions held in Wichita. MATC programs competing were Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration, Auto Collision Repair, and Welding. MATC students placed 1st and 2nd in Air Condition & Refrigeration and 3rd in Auto Collision Repair for the entire State.
