A competency hearing has been set in a rape case, involving an alleged 13-year-old victim. Jason Nazario had an appearance Thursday in Geary County District Court in the case, and his attorney filed the motion for competency, with a competency hearing date of April 23rd set. Nazario was arrested on the rape charge by Junction City Police December 18th of last year.

An Eskridge woman has entered a plea in Pottawatomie county court in a case KMAN has been following since last summer. Stephanie Rush, 29, pled no contest to felony fleeing and eluding in connection with a case that began at Wal-Mart in Manhattan in July of last year. Law enforcement authorities at the time indicated Rush took possession of several items from the jewelry and make-up counters at Wal-Mart and got into a vehicle. Police followed the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop when Rush fled to HIghway 24 near St. George and entered Highway 177, driving south to I-70. Her…
On Monday, March 10, a guardrail improvement project will begin on a .5-mile mile stretch of U.S. 24 approximately one mile northwest of the K-113 and U.S. 24 intersection in Riley County. Project work includes the removal of the existing guard cable fence, grading work and installation of new guardrail. SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) Kansas City Royals right-hander Luke Hochevar likely will miss at least the first two months of the season because of a sprained ligament in his right elbow. Hochevar, the first pick in the 2006 amateur draft, felt something unusual in the elbow during his next-to-last pitch Monday in a two-inning outing against the Chicago White Sox, according to manager Ned Yost. The sprain was revealed in an MRI taken Tuesday. Yost said Wednesday Hochevar won’t throw for two-to-three weeks and “probably the best-case scenario” would be a return at the end of May or early June.…
Kansas State University has nominated four students for the 2014 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. The nominees are Thuy Cao, Garden City; Max Goering, McPherson; Brendan Heffernan, Olathe; and Christine Spartz, Ellington, Conn. Established by Congress in 1986 to honor Sen. Barry M. Goldwater from Arizona, the scholarship is awarded to nearly 300 college students across the country every year. Awardees receive up to $7,500 annually for college-related expenses. With 69 Goldwater scholars to date, Kansas State University ranks first among the nation’s 500 state-supported universities. Cleion Morton has been named the principal of Northview Elementary School. Morton currently serves as the Principal at Mill Creek Valley Middle School and Junior High in Paxico. Manhattan/Ogden USD 383 School Board members viewed two options on how to deal with the recent Kansas withholding tax error that impacted 21% of school district employees. The first option was a salary advancement for affected teachers, and the second was a Kansas Tax Penalty Reimbursement. The board unanimously approved both options so impacted teachers could decide on how to proceed with their own situations. Board President, Curt Herrman; Superintendent, Bob Shannon; and Director of Business Services, Lew Faust all apologized for the tax error and said they are working to make sure something like this never happens again. ———-…
