WICHITA, Kan. (AP) The Kansas Historical Society has received a grant of nearly $161,000 to convert 100,000 pages of old Kansas newspapers into a digital format. The Wichita Eagle reports that it’s the second grant to the state society from the National Endowment for the Humanities in nearly three years. In 2010, the society received nearly $210,000 to digitize nearly that same number of pages from old Kansas newspapers. The newspapers are from 1854 to 1922. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) The Wichita State University Foundation says it received more than $22.5 million in giving in the past fiscal year, the highest amount in three years. The organization said Wednesday the total includes almost $5 million from 19 estate gifts. Foundation president Elizabeth King says the engineering college received the largest amount, mainly due a gift from the estate of Velma Wallace. The total value of the WSU Foundation’s endowment is about $230 million.

Prairie Star is located off Marlatt, near the “Top of the World” area.  Around 10-12 homes are located on the road, and are looking to possibly form a paving district. Assistant County Counselor, Craig Cox shared this information with the Riley County Commission during Thursday’s commission meeting. Cox said they did run into a snag with this concept, as Kansas State University property would be involved.  If they were to continue with the original plans and pave from Marlatt through Prairie Star, K-State would have to be in the paving district as well.  According to Cox, this is not a…

The Riley County Public Works Department reported potential delays next week due to a construction project. A 15 minute delay is expected for asphalt seals to be applied for 905 Casement Road and 404 Barnes Road on Tuesday and to 897 South Tuttle Cove Road Thursday. With fresh asphalt being applied, drivers are encouraged to take alternate routes when possible. Weather conditions could delay or reschedule the project. K-State didn’t quite crack the initial top 25, but the Wildcats received 113 votes to top the list of other teams receiving votes in the first coaches poll of 2013. This essentially puts K-State at number 26 heading into the season. K-State finished 11th in the final coaches poll of 2012 after finishing with an 11-2 record.
