MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP)   Angel Rodriguez scored 15 points, Jordan Henriquez had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Kansas State beat Fort Hays State 90-60 in an exhibition game Sunday.  Thomas Gipson had 14 points and six rebounds for the Wildcats, who played without Big 12 sixth man of the year Jamar Samuels.  The senior forward is serving a three-game suspension for violating team rules. Tyrone Phillips had 16 points for Fort Hays State. Lance Russell scored 12, and Markus Yarborough finished with 11 points. COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP)   Bye-bye Big 12, hello SEC. After weeks of private flirtations and the college sports’ equivalent of prenuptial negotiations with their respective lawyers, Missouri and the Southeastern Conference took their mutual attraction public Sunday First the SEC released a statement welcoming Missouri as its newest member. Later there was a campus pep rally in Columbia, replete with a new SEC banner, the school’s marching band and exploding confetti. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Matt Moore threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns, Reggie Bush had 92 yards rushing and another score and the Miami Dolphins won their first game of the season in a big way, 31-3 over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.   Moore, who took over after Chad Henne had season-ending shoulder surgery, became the first Dolphins quarterback since Chad Pennington in 2008 to throw three TD passes.  Two of them went to tight end Anthony Fasano and another to Brandon Marshall, who finished with eight catches for 106 yards.  Miami (1-7) and Indianapolis had been the…

It’s a full agenda for the Manhattan City Commission for tomorrow’s work session. First up on the docket is Kansas State University president Kirk Schulz, who will be updating the commission on activities occurring at K-State while also highlighting university initiatives and how they relate to the community. The second item concerns the Bethel AME and Pilgrim Baptist Churches. The commission will be taking the next step in the process of adding those two churches to the National Register of Historic Places. An altercation over the weekend led to the arrest of a Manhattan man. Riley County police arrested 22-year old Craig DeCormier II Saturday evening. DeCormier, of the 700 block of Pebblebrook Circle,  is expected to face felony charges of aggravated battery and aggravated assault as well as misdemeanor theft. RCPD released DeCormier’s on an $11,000 bond.

A fire destroyed the unfinished Strasser Village apartment complex early Sunday morning. The Manhattan Fire Department responded to the call at 4th and Leavenworth shortly after 2:30 a.m. and would spend the next seven hours dousing the fire. By the time the blazes were under control, the fire had consumed the entire northeastern portion of the building. Battalion chief Jim Blanck does not believe foul play was involved but at this point the cause of the fire remains undetermined. No injuries have been reported in connection with the fire.
