NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Starting wide receiver Trey Franks was suspended indefinitely by No. 1 Oklahoma on Tuesday for an unspecified violation of team rules. Coach Bob Stoops announced the suspension for Franks, who is the team’s third-leading receiver with seven catches for 74 yards this season. He’s also one of the Sooners’ kickoff returners. Co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell said after practice that Jaz Reynolds, Dejuan Miller and Kameel Jackson could see additional playing time while Franks is out. This is the second time this season Pelger has been recognized by College Volleyball Update as she was listed among the website’s Top Performers last week. (AP) Eric Hosmer went 5 for 5 with a three-run homer and Luis Mendoza got his first major league win in more than three years in the Kansas City Royals’ 10-2 win over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night. Review of the old and amend the new , was the substance of Tuesday’s Wamego City Commission meeting. At the last meeting, City Manager Merl Page and the Commissioner’s felt a review of the City’s Tax Abatement Policy adopted in 1989 was in order, because of a recent request for tax abatement from Caterpillar Work Tools for their ongoing expansion project. Most area schools report not much difference in numbers for September 20th, the official count day that determines the bulk of enrollment and financing for school districts. USD 383 still reports about an increase of 69 students with its bricks and mortars buildings, and up about 83 if virtual students are included. USD 378 Superintendent Brad Starnes says his was one of the district’s with not much change from earlier in the year. Manhattan’s City Commission met Tuesday night to discuss only a couple of items. First up was the first stage of a plan to replace the Traffic Operation Facility, which was rendered inoperable by the August 2010 microburst. Commissioners took very little time in discussion, passing the plan along by a unanimous vote. The new facility will sit on a City-owned lot at the intersection of 11th and El Paso Streets. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) The chairman of the Kansas Board of Regents says the board will discuss conference realignment at its meeting Thursday, but he remains confident the Big 12 can survive. Ed McKechnie told The Kansas City Star that the meeting will be held in executive session and will be attended by officials from both K-State and KU. He says that as long as five schools remain committed to the Big 12, the conference can survive. McKechnie says he expects “everybody to live up to their obligations and honor the contracts they have signed.”
