Currently the host of "KMAN's Morning News", Troy is a 30 year veteran of radio, nearly 20 in northern Colorado, where he served as the "Voice of the UNC Bears" while serving as the news and sports director for one of the oldest AM stations in the country. No stranger to Manhattan nor Kansas, Troy is an alum of K-State in broadcast journalism and grew up near Circleville. He began his broadcast career with KSDB-FM on campus while working part time at another radio station in town. He's married to the former Monica Haugsness of Seneca, who has patiently put up with his schedule for more than 25 years.

The Kansas Shrine Bowl rosters for this summer’s game in Hays were released Sunday, with Manhattan’s Keenan Schartz and Jaxon Vikander plus Wamego’s Hayden Oviatt being selected. The Manhattan quarterback and linebacker were picked for a West team that will be coached by a staff that includes Indians head coach Joe Schartz as an assistant. Hays High coach Tony Crough will serve as that team’s head coach. Oviatt and his team’s head coach Weston Moody will again team up with the East team, as Moody was named to assist on a staff led by Blue Valley Northwest’s Clint Rider. Also…

The Manhattan High boys basketball team moved to 3-1 on the season with a 60-44 win over Hays last night, as Jack Wilson led three players in double figures with 20 points. Coach Benji George says his team’s defensive effort made the offense better. Aaron Newcomer scored 14, Collins Elumogo 12 in the win for the Indians. The Manhattan girls saw Hays hit nine three pointers en route to a 56-47 decision. Destiny Yates scored 16 and Avery Larson 15 for the Tribe, who fell to 1-3. With the start of the official window for players to announce their plans for transferring to other schools, three Kansas State players were among the hundreds that made statements Monday, officially ending their careers at the school. Junior quarterback Jaren Lewis saw action in four games during his tenure in Manhattan, including during a stretch in 2021 where starter Skyler Thompson was unavailable because of injury. Manhattan High’s opener in the Hays City Shootout Thursday evening will be an early season showdown between top 10 teams in 6A. The Kansas Basketball Coaches Association pre-season poll issued Tuesday placed the Indians at number 10 to open the season, with Olathe West number three. Also in the field is seventh ranked Lawrence-Free State and the number two team in 2A in Thomas More Prep. Kansas State took advantage of two Kansas mistakes in the first quarter, scoring 23 points and building a lead it would never give up on the way to a victory. The win is the 14th straight against the Jayhawks and clinched a spot for the Wildcats in next Saturday morning’s Big 12 Championship game. The sub-state round of the high school football playoffs includes a rematch of one of the top games in the state this season as Manhattan High hosts Derby in 6A. The Indians won at Derby in overtime to kick off the season, 26-23, the first win in what has grown to a 11-0 season. Three area teams will take the field Friday night in the KSHSAA high school football playoffs, bidding to move into the state semifinals in a week. In 6A, Manhattan High will meet Wichita Northwest for the second time in four weeks. The Indians claimed a 56-28 win over 4th ranked Wichita Northwest on October 21. A late Adrian Martinez fumble forced by Texas’ nose tackle Keondre Coburn was vacuumed up by linebacker Jaylan Ford and the Longhorns quelled a late K-State comeback to win Saturday night, 34-24, at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The Wildcats made the game uncomfortable for Texas by limiting them to just three second half points, but the damage was done as the Longhorns opened a 31-10 halftime lead. Jaylon Winans ran for almost 260 yards Thursday night and Rock Creek rallied from a double-digit deficit in the first half to advance in the 3A playoffs.
