So far the Riley County commissioner has been able to reduce the proposed mill levy increase 1.9, which is quite different than the little over three mill levy numbers the group started out with Thursday. That’s thanks to a clerical error discovered during a work session Thursday afternoon. A missed formula on an excel spreadsheet cell was found on Wednesday, and added a substantial boon for the mill levy reduction process.
Commission Chair Dave Lewis explains the error involved around $177,000.
Lewis adds that throughout the work session, commissioners have been able to cut hundreds of thousands of dollars, including capital improvements and county budget funds. The commission continues to work to lower the mill levy rate before the August deadline.
