The Manhattan-Ogden school board had an array of topics to deal with at their Wednesday night meeting.
The first item was that two of their members, Susan Marshall and Nancy Knopp, are both leaving the board. There was reminiscing and heart felt goodbyes throughout as they concluded their final meeting. The new members will take their seats at the next meeting.
Another issue was construction. Woodrow Wilson is three to four weeks behind schedule on construction. There has been a request for a corrective plan of action to describe in detail the actions that will take place to get completion of the project. The board has requested the presence of the construction team at the next meeting to talk about the issues around the Woodrow Wilson project.
Theodore Roosevelt Elementary has also been hit by some construction problems. There has been some structural failure and cracking in the concrete. As of right now there is no set plan on how to fix the problems. However, it is possible that the construction of the 20’s building will not be done in August as expected.
Manhattan High School is well on its way. Construction crews are making progress to get the project completed on time. Demolition of the first part of the project has been completed and work on the next part has started, so when the school starts they can begin that section.
The Junior ROTC program was given first approval April 20th when the board allowed the application to be filled. On June 22, this program was placed number one on the National Order of Merit waiting list. This gives the option for those in charge of the program to decide when to start without fear of being taken off this list or falling out of favor.
Other topics included a unanimous approval of the bid for classroom furniture for Lee, Northview, Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, a six – zero vote for the purchase of classroom projectors and a unanimous vote for the budget transfer.
