USD 383 BOE approves 2011-2012 Budget, gets construction update

The Manhattan – Ogden school board had some major decisions to make during their meeting.

The meeting started with a work session to go over the construction schedule for Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt Elementary.   Though progress is being made, classes will be starting a little later.  The board unanimously passed a motion to move the start date for Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt from Wednesday August 24 to Friday August 26 with a full day.  This was thought to be the best option and the safest for the students.  Discussion will continue with how the day and a half will be made up.

The budget was again on the table causing some debate between members.  The majority of the members agreed to Option Three of the budget planning which has a capital outlay at 6 mills.  One member, however, did not feel that was the right choice.  The motion passed with a 6 – 1 vote, with Walt Pesaresi voting against Option 3.

Trisha Brooke-Fruendt, Program Manager, and Dean Younger, Project Manager, along with others were able to give progress reports on the construction of the schools.  Most of the projects seem to be moving along according to plan.
