More NBAF funding coming in January

Two weeks ago, Kansas officials in Topeka authorized the issuing of $45. 4 million in bonds for the next phase of the NBAF facility here in Manhattan.

Ron Trewyn, Vice President for Research at Kansas State University, says an additional funding of $50 million will come within the next month.

“That’s actually the first round of funding for the laboratory itself,” Trewyn said. “In the FY12 appropriations, money coming forward to start the laboratory probably in August of this next year which is a big deal because that starts getting the lab coming up out of the ground.”

After some stipulation on whether the funding has been authorized or not, Trewyn puts that notion rest.

“I think it is passed though, house and senate, so it is ready to go and there should be no issues with that and it is part of the Homeland Security’s package for FY12 so everything looks good.”

The $50 million is expected to be issued by the end of January for fiscal year 2012.
