Four topics covered the Manhattan – Ogden school board winter retreat, all of which centered on the high school.
The board started the retreat discussing the senior early release date and whether giving the students the option to have an early release should continue to be allowed.
The next topic centered on the high school day start time. The board examined materials brought by Superintendent Bob Shannon, which included other school’s start time and how those impacted the school along with studies as to the psychology of how teenagers function.
The third topic was concerning the open closed lunch hour at the high school. Board Member Walt Pesaresi advocated to making the lunch period closed citing that the bond issue allowed for the construction of a new cafeteria.
The final discussion item was the general high school schedule. Again, Superintendent Bob Shannon brought materials showcasing other schools and how their schedules impact them. Though each one was different, seeing other options pushed the board to want to look at this issue at a later date.
The retreat was a discussion only and, therefore, no action was taken on any item.
