By KMAN Staff on October 24, 2014 Fort Riley, Local News
1st Infantry Division soldiers and United States Air Force airmen will conduct a joint training exercise to certify Fort Riley’s unimproved flight landing strip in the week ahead.
According to trainers the exercise will validate the air strips functionality, and ensure it is up to code for future operations.  Airmen assigned to the 186th Airlift Squadron, Montana Air National Guard will fly into the area, and bundle equipment from the 97th Military Police Battalion for an airlift operation which will see fully loaded aircraft landing and taking off from the air strip.  Night air drops, a live fire exercise, and other support exercises will feature the 1st Sustainment Brigade, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, and 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
