The Manhattan Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Committee is hosting its annual community program event Saturday at the Manhattan Arts Center.
The program will include guest speakers Dr. JohnElla Holmes and Reverend K. Sexton as well as music, food, and community art exhibits. The MAC is coordinating their art with the MLK celebration, and committee member Suzanne Glymour is excited for one exhibit in particular.
The event also includes the displaying of materials from the Art and Writing Contest winners:
Different from previous years, the art will be on display at the MAC for an entire month, highlighting the talents of local adults and youth.
Committee Chair Kevin Bryant, notes the importance that Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the subsequent MLK community events plays in the Manhattan community.
In addition to Saturday’s community program, the MLK Day of Service will take place on January 20, with a wreath laying ceremony to follow at the Dr. King bust outside of Ahearn Fieldhouse at 1:30 p.m. January 26. The event will feature members of Dr. King’s fraternity.
The MLK Community Program will start at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Manhattan Arts Center.
