Riley County Health Department and USD 383 are partnering together to kick off the ninth year of Camp Kindergarten. The program is designed to be a way to introduce young children to the kindergarten experience. “It is a kindergarten emersion program,” says Raising Riley Community Outreach Coordinator Chelsea Manwarren. “We are really working on getting those kiddos used to what kindergarten is.” Program activities include working through transitions, some learning, and snack times. Evergy released a statement Wednesday morning detailing the work that they did to restore power to most of Westmoreland in the aftermath of a tornado that struck the town Tuesday afternoon causing significant property damage and infrastructure interruptions. “Crews worked through the night and restored power to nearly all homes that are safe to restore at this point,” says Communications Manager Kaley Bohlen. “Unfortunately, given the substantial damage to some homes due to the tornado, we won’t be able to restore power at this point as structural repairs and rebuilding is needed. The Riley County Historical Society is starting a new public training initiative to assist in the preservation of historic gravestones. Wamego Health Center is close to completing a new MRI suite which began construction on September 29. The MRI scanner facility is being funded by the Wamego Hospital Foundation and patrons of the community.
