Habitat for Humanity for the Northern Flint Hills announced earlier this week that they have partnered with 3Rivers to support aging homeowners in Riley and Pottawatomie Counties through the Habitat for Humanity Aging in Place Program.
Executive director Josh Brewer expressed excitement over the partnership in a discussion with KMAN earlier this week.
“We’ve had a lack of funding in our CBDG program,” he said. “We also are seeing a pause in this program with our 60 to 80 percent category at the same time. However, this partnership with Three Rivers is just wonderful and allows us to provide assistance to those in need.”
The partnership brings essential construction services to older adults, ensuring that they can continue to live in their homes with dignity and comfort. The partnership has allowed for Habitat to lead construction on two wheelchair ramps and install a handrail for 3Rivers clients.
“Partnerships like the one with 3Rivers help our affiliate better support aging adults in the counties we serve,” said homeowner services manager Emily Herbig. “We have the tools; they know the people, which is a powerful partnership!”
The partnership produced their first successful project on Friday. The program allows for projects such as accessibility ramps, handrails, doorway widening and ensuring that adults that are 55+ have the resources they need to remain in their home.
