Yet another Aggieville business has shut its doors. Keltic Star, the British themed pub and grill located in the center of the Aggieville Business District, had it’s final day of business Sunday. Co-owner Shirley McCall says the decision after seven years to close was not one they took lightly. The restaurant employed about 20 people and McCall says they were notified ahead of Sunday’s closure. McCall ran the Keltic Star with her husband Perry and son Darren. The family says they intend to sell the business and remains hopeful it will continue either as Keltic Star or under a different…

RANDOLPH — The Riley County Police Department is investigating after an unattended death was reported in north Riley County late Monday night. Shortly after 8:30 p.m., dispatchers were alerted to the Green Randolph Bridge. RCPD says they discovered a deceased individual but their investigation concluded there was no threat to the public and that the incident does not appear to be suspicious. Witness reports online say it appears the incident was a suicide. The bridge was closed for several hours while police investigated. It has since reopened.

A discussion on mass shootings will take place later this month in Manhattan hosted and facilitated by area 4H youth as a way to engage community members. Those leading the forum are trained, neutral moderators who present the overall problem and then three or four approaches to working through the problem. The Riley County Police Department hosted a police interaction course as a learning opportunity for autistic adults and teenagers. The event, held at Westview Community Church Saturday morning showcased how those individuals should act in certain police situations, like traffic stops. “I think it’s good for us as individuals to learn that this is how the police respond to things and it’s also helpful for the officers to learn when I see this situation and recognize these signs I can go into a different frame of reference,” said participant Allison Rood. USD 383 Manhattan/Ogden Schools is alerting families of a scam circulating the area involving out of state companies calling local businesses seeking sponsorship of Manhattan High School apparel. According to a statement from the district, these businesses include Sportsmedia/Texas and Riddell All American Sports/CA are falsely claiming they are working with Manhattan High School and/or coaches. One of the scams involves telling local businesses they are working with the MHS cheer coach – falsely using her name to scam folks out of money. Data collected by Kansas State University’s Economics Club shows the cost of living for an average K-State student has remained nearly unchanged in the past year. The 2019 Student Price Index (SPI), increased by 0.4 percent from 2018, compared to the national Consumer Price Index, which was substantially more than the SPI, at a rate of 1.7 percent from 2018 before seasonal adjustment. Salina Police say a student at Salina Central High has been arrested after bringing a gun to school. Police say administrators were tipped Thursday that the student had brought the 9 mm pistol to the school. Police confronted the student who then fled on foot. He was apprehended a few blocks away. The gun reportedly had been listed as stolen by a family member. The boy, who is 16 according to media reports, was transported to the North Central Kansas Regional Detention Center Facility in Junction City. Pawnee Mental Health Services officials held the inaugural “Driving the Dream: Responding to Needs” fundraiser Thursday at the Midwest Dream Car Collection. The event featured videos explaining the services offered and testimonials from community members. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A computer software engineer accused of plotting cyberattacks on websites criticizing a Wichita attorney’s work has notified the court he plans to change his plea. A docket notation on Wednesday in U.S. District Court says VIRAL Artificial Intelligence co-founder David Dorsett is set for a change-of-plea hearing on Oct. 21 in Wichita. Dorsett and Wichita lawyer Bradley Pistotnik pleaded not guilty last year to federal charges of computer fraud and conspiracy. Pistotnik is also charged with making false statements to the FBI.
