Detectives with the Riley County Police Department made an arrest in connection with the illegal distribution of narcotics in the Manhattan and Riley County areas Thursday at approximately 4:30 p.m. Police made this arrest after serving a search warrant in the 700 block of Zeandale Road outside of Manhattan. WICHITA — Volunteers have achieved a major milestone in their efforts to restore a World War II bomber. The Wichita Eagle reports that the B-29 Superfortress known as Doc moved under its own power Wednesday for the first time in decades. During about 45 minutes of testing in Wichita, volunteers evaluated Doc’s brakes and ability to turn. A spokesman for the nonprofit group that owns and is restoring the Boeing airplane said Doc traveled at a speed of about 8 to 10 mph. Officers with the Riley County Police Department arrested James Sitterle, 35, of Junction City, Kansas with assistance from the Junction City Police Department. Sitterle was arrested while in Junction City after officers began looking for him in connection to a flee and elude investigation which occurred in Manhattan. This incident began in the 1300 block of Anderson Ave. when a police officer attempted to perform a traffic stop on Sitterle. JUNCTION CITY — A former coach at USD 473 in Chapman has been arrested by the Geary County Sheriff’s Office. After a three week long investigation, the sheriff’s office arrested 26-year old Mark Snider of Abilene on Thursday. Snider is charged with five counts of electronic solicitation and attempted sexual exploitation of a child under 16 years of age. Snider was a basketball and track coach for the Chapman school district prior to his resignation at a board meeting last month. Water main breaks are continuing to impact travel throughout Manhattan. Yesterday, traffic was closed on Kimball Avenue between College and Browning. On May 7, a water main break on Anderson Avenue closed traffic between 16th and 17th street briefly. Traffic was reduced to one lane for a few days while crews repaired the break. According to Rob Ott, Public Works Director, the water main on Anderson avenue was installed in 1914. Ott plans to respond to KMAN’s inquiries in depth next week. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) – A 21-year-old Topeka man is due in federal court more than three months after admitting to plotting to bomb a northeast Kansas military installation. U.S. District Judge Carlos Murguia was holding a hearing Friday on the status of John T. Booker Jr.’s case. Booker pleaded guilty in February to two charges arising from his arrest in April 2015 outside Fort Riley as he tried to arm what he thought was a 1,000-pound bomb. The Kansas City Royals were unable to salvage a split Thursday night in New York as the Yankees won 7-3 taking three out of four from the defending world champs. Chase Headley and Didi Gregorius hit two-run homers, and Starlin Castro added a solo shot to boost the Yankees. A Pottawatomie County man arrested for numerous battery charges waived his preliminary hearing Thursday. Pottawatomie County Attorney Sherri Schuck told KMAN 26-year-old Jarvis Clark will be arraigned on May 19 and remains confined in jail. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office released information Monday regarding a domestic disturbance investigation opened April 22. A caller reported gunshots had been fired at a home in the area of 326 E. Webster Street in Louisville and that the suspect fled the scene. Riley County commissioners were updated on the latest dollars and cents in the county balance sheet Thursday morning. County treasurer Shilo Heger reported a general fund of $9.9 million and that the county’s total assets add up to over $37.1 million. Heger said the general fund has about $200,000 more in it than at this time in 2015. “We are right on line where we were last year,” she said. Heger also reported year to date sales tax dollars are down 1.24 percent compared to this time last year and that April-alone sales tax numbers are down 1.12 percent compared…
