The Bell OH-58, also known as the Kiowa helicopter made it’s final flight this weekend over Fort Riley during Victory Week in a stunning display of Army pride. An accident on I-70 in Geary County involving school buses was reported over the noon hour Friday. The accident occurred in the westbound lanes near Exit 301. Traffic slow-downs were being reported, and was down to one lane shortly before 12:30 p.m. An injury appeared to be involved but further details are not available at this time.

HAVEN, Kan. (AP) Students at Haven High School will have to look at each other while dancing next school year. The south-central Kansas school district says a type of dancing known as grinding will be banned at school functions. During a grinding dance, the students dance back-to-front with the person in back making a grinding motion. School board member Bobbie Rohling says the dancing is “X-rated” and too much of it is occurring at school dances. The Hutchinson News reports several other Kansas schools have banned the dance in recent years, including Inman, Goddard and McPherson.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Tuttle Creek Lake Friday announced the closing of the swim beach and boat ramp at Tuttle Creek Cove Park due to flooding. All non-utility sites are closed, however, several utility sites remain available for tent camping. Other closures include the campground and boat ramps at Stockdale. All closed boat ramps, campgrounds and the swim beach will reopen when flooding recedes and the lake returns to a safe level. As first reported Thursday afternoon by KMAN,  officers with the Riley County Police Department responded to a report of aggravated burglary and theft in the 700 block of Yuma involving elderly adult victims. Approximately $2,000 in US currency belonging to 3 elderly adult victims, ages 91, 96, and 95, was removed from a home after an unknown white male suspect described as approximately 6 feet tall and 185 pounds entered the home under false pretense. The suspect told victims he was an employee of a gas company and was checking for gas leaks prior to taking possession of the money…

By The Associated Press 5:30 a.m. (CDT) The Kansas Senate will determine whether a plan for raising sales and cigarette taxes to erase a budget deficit will clear the Republican-dominated Legislature and go to GOP Gov. Sam Brownback. Two bills contained parts of the tax plan. The measures together would raise $384 million during the fiscal year that begins July 1. The Senate was expected to vote Friday on a bill increasing the state’s sales tax to 6.5 percent from 6.15 percent. The House approved it early Friday morning, 63-44.
