The Riley County Police Department is investigating a report of burglary in the 1000 block of Garden Way in Manhattan which occurred during the day on January 11, 2016. The report was filed on January 11, 2016 at approximately 3:50 PM and consisted of approximately $1,200.00 worth of loss. Officers found that Aaron Whitmore, 22, of Manhattan became the victim in this crime when several items to include a flat panel television, an Xbox 360 and 3 controllers, as well as a smart television, and US currency were removed from his home without his permission. Wamego’s USD 320 approved a resolution to refinance the District’s 2009 Bond. At Monday’s meeting, Wichita based Bond Counsel, Gilmore & Bell’s Kevin Cowan reviewed the refinance opportunity of the District’s 2009 Bond which would save the District over $115,000. After going over the specifics of the financing, a motion was made to authorize the offering for sale of General Obligation Refunding Bonds, Series 2016 of the USD 320 School District. Dr. Robert Diepenbrock currently serves as the Superintendent of Kingman-Norwich Public Schools – USD 331 and has been in that position since July of 2010. The Kansas legislature opened session Monday morning and Riley County commissioners are bracing for another frustrating year as the state budget continues to face massive shortfalls. County Counselor Clancy Holeman briefed commissioners Monday morning on impending bills that has their attention and learned one of those pieces of legislation — the state-imposed property tax — may see some unwanted amendments for an already unpopular direction from Topeka. Pottawatomie County Commissioners have a new Chair, with the reorganizational meeting Monday resulting in Dee McKee as the new Chair and Stan Hartwich as the Vice Chair. The group also voted 2-1 to move Blue Valley and Olsburg back into District Three, which is Hartwich’s district–to more evenly balance the populations among the districts. McKee opposed the move since that’s from her growing district, but indicated verbally she’s okay with the change.
