TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The Kansas Board of Regents has revised a policy allowing state universities to discipline or fire faculty and staff for improper use of social media. The changes approved Wednesday include new statements that academic freedom and free-speech rights still will be protected. The board retained language defining improper use of social media as messages that incite violence, disclose private student or health care information or are contrary to the best interests of the university. Although Riley County Commissioner, Dave Lewis made the official announcement back in March, on KMAN’s In Focus, that he would be running to retain his seat as commissioner, he officially filed earlier this week. Updated Thursday morning: Riley County Police updated an accident report Thursday morning KMAN first told you about early Wednesday afternoon.   The two vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Seth Child Road and Claflin. Riley County Police say Julian Ybarra, 69, of Manhattan was cited for failure to stop at a red light and Charles Ponton Jr., 67, also of Manhattan was arrested for driving while under the influence shortly after the collision.   Police were called to the scene at approximately 1:00 PM and closed off the eastbound lanes of Claflin and one southbound lane of Seth Child. First team junior college all-American Antoinette Taylor becomes the first player in the Jeff Mittie era of K-State women’s basketball to sign her national letter of intent. The 5-foot-7 inch point guard will play for the Cats next season after averaging 15.4 points and 3.4 assists per game as a sophomore for State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Missouri. For the third straight season, the K-State volleyball team will square off with a Pac-12 school. The Cats will open the season at the University of Green Bay tournament, and Arizona was announced as the fourth team in the field on Tuesday. K-State and Arizona will clash at 4:30pm on Saturday, August 30th to conclude the tournament. The two teams haven’t met since 1987, and Arizona won both previous meetings against K-State. (AP) James Shields cooled down hot-hitting Colorado over seven sharp innings, Lorenzo Cain and Salvador Perez both homered and the Kansas City Royals beat the Rockies 5-1 on Tuesday night. The only run Shields allowed came on an RBI single by Justin Morneau in the fourth inning. Alma resident and K-State alumnus, Keen Umbehr recently announced his decision to run for Kansas Governor. The Libertarian candidate recently spoke to KMAN and shared his story. His father worked in oil fields overseas, so Umbehr grew up in parts of Africa and Asia.
